Urban Density. This comes from all of my personal experiences when living in the UK and Hong Kong. Hong Kong is the place where I grew up and studied most of the time. "Densely populated" is the only phrase to describe this place. High-rise buildings, crowds of people and heavy traffic are everywhere. In the past 20 years they became normal to me. Until I went to the UK, the lifestyles in the UK somehow have changed my view, or have broadened my horizon. The density of the two places, Hong Kong and the UK, is what drives me to explore about the issue more. In the UK, there are big pieces of grassland between cities. The feeling of “freedom“ and “fresh air“ are the words to describe the living environment in the UK. It is a big contrast compared with the UK after I went back to Hong Kong for holidays. What makes me obsessed about the city where I grew up is the living space. My view and feeling have changed, and all I can see is a city densely populated with 7 million plus people. Especially the residential buildings, when I look at them, they are like living boxes. And each box represents one family, one person with untold stories from each of them. The density of the urban places in Hong Kong makes me feel interested again in this little city. This is the urban density of my city, Hong Kong.
